Just a Walk in the Park

In my effort to get caught up on recitals, Brownies, birthday celebrations etc. I skipped some of our fun activities the week before recitals. This hike at Slate Run with our dear honorary grandmother, Nancy was one of those events. Even though there were some sprinkles coming down, that did not keep us from picnicking by ourselves and hiking. When I say by ourselves I mean this very literally, one other car at the area we went to. No one on the trail and maybe one other group at the farm. Ideal!
Nancy had her friend Ashlyn here from Cincinnati for the week and they were busy ladies. Ashlyn wanted to see the farm and we had the pleasure of being invited to play and hang out. She is a lovely girl and all of the kids hit it off. Nancy took us on one of her favorite trails that had some pretty steep hills, pretty much vertical at times. Not a problem except when Erin became spooked by old fallen trees and was ready to get out of the woods mid hike. Carrying 26 pounds on a straight incline is probably not the best idea for me but better than sleeping on the ground in the woods all night!
Thank you Nancy for a wonderful time as always!

Nancy and Ashlyn

Check out how many trunks this tree has!

Erin was ready to GO out of the woods! Now!

The "bench" is from a fallen tree during the huge ice storm of 2004 when Nancy had no power for 5 days over Christmas. The least that storm could do was provide her with a resting spot on her favorite trail!

Love these pictures of Ethan swinging at the farmhouse.

There is something about this picture of Erin with her pigtails, swinging, and looking over her shoulder. Thinking about an 8x10, it just melts my heart!
