Another one of my passions about homeschooling is making sure that my children have lots of exposure to cultural arts. We have memberships to museums, COSI, Franklin Park Conservatory, the zoo and the list goes on! We regularly attend plays and other types of performances. We utilize the programs offered especially at the museum as this is one of my kids favorite places.
Saturday's Doodles program was on the artist Peter Zimmerman. A German artist who creates digital art that resembles poured paint and is then put on epoxy resin. It is hard to explain, one of those things you just have to see. You can fully experience the piece by walking on it in the gallery. It is massive and takes up the entire room.

Our project began with reading clues and then the kids had to find the appropriate color for the description. Where was the color of cotton candy? Freshly mowed grass? Autumn leaves? Freshly picked violets? Wonderful descriptions to get the kids immersed! I love that!
Then it was back to the studio to create our own interpretation of Zimmerman's work. Given pieces of Plexiglas the kids dripped glass paint onto the plexi. They had stylus to use to swirl the paint or make designs. To get the poured paint look we held our canvas up and turned it the direction we wanted the paint to go.

The result was so neat to see and so similar to the artist. They are propped in my window to show the full effect of the colors. Another wonderful learning art experience!
Thank you James family for joining us for a great afternoon.
