Apple - Pies

Apple Pie in an apple, Paige's choice for dessert last night. Fun to make and even more fun to eat. She helped me scoop out the insides of the apples and mix up the filling. Paige's favorite part was cutting the crust out and making the lattice topping. They were so yummy and the kids loved having their own apple!

Presidential Pie

Every Thanksgiving Kyle makes his special Apple Pie that he learned to make years ago at a co-op cooking class. Its the most popular pie of the day! This year he had a special apron to wear.

The weekend before my friend Aimee and I went to the Food Network Fabulous Food Show in Cleveland. Yes, it was fabulous! The food was great but the company makes it the most fun. Anyway, Aimee and I went to see a presentation done by a White House Chef. Such neat stories about the Presidents and their families I was texting like crazy to Kyle and getting questions from him to ask. He would have loved it!

But he got a cool gift with this official White House Food Service Apron just like the chefs wear at the White House. Brought a little bit more to the pie this year I think!

Cool - Chocolate Bowls!

Ok, this was cool. We started our chocolate unit study off with a bang - literally! The kids were so excited to do this. Even though we were having a really busy day and the girls had to get to dance we squeezed it in anyway. I could not resist and the best part was they turned out.

The steps follow, fun to make and fun to eat!





Use small balloons, in my case regular balloons blown up very small!





Melt 2 cups of chocolate chips in microwave for 5 minutes on 50%

Start dipping balloons in the chocolate, we did less than half way since we were using the larger balloons.

Put on wax paper to set. I kept at room temp but to speed up we stuck in the fridge.

We used the extra chocolate to dip some of the strawberries.

Then of course we had to lick the bowl!
