Happy Easter and Birthdays!

Taking pictures before the Easter egg hunt proved to be a good thing! The kids were so excited to hunt for eggs that they quickly assembled themselves for pictures.Without any help they were posed and ready to go. Then they were off to hunt. After the eggs we had everyone over for brunch and to celebrate Bill's 40th birthday and Gretchen's 36th.

Bringing A Little Spring!

Last week we delivered Easter flowers to shut ins for church. We went to a new assisted living facility in Pickerington. The kids had a ball! All of the residents have apartments and it is a beautiful facility. We usually go to a nursing home so this was a change for them and they really liked it. We were able to stay and visit with the church members we were delivering to and they loved talking with the kids. It was a great way to start our Easter week.

Peep Wreath

You either love them or hate them, I happen to love Peeps! Some of my kids like them some don't. Bill definitely falls into the "does not like" category but he did love this Easter wreath I made with them. With all the new colors they have now I was able to fill it with lots of spring colors and work to fill in with other Easter treats.
The base of the wreath is a 12 inch foam form covered in pink grosgrain ribbon. With hot glue in hand I started gluing peeps everywhere, it helped to set them out for a couple of days to harden up a bit. I have to admit that until I started filling in with other things I thought it looked terrible. But when Bill walked in and said how cute it looked I had to agree with him. I like the way it turned out and it looks really festive in the kitchen.

Waiting to bust out of their Easter outfits!

We had a great Easter today. Getting ready for church was a challenge as Paige and Lindy struggle over what they can get away with wearing each week. Since they can wear casual clothes each week they were dressing up for Easter, no exceptions. They were whining about wearing tights for days, finally this morning when Paige was starting about how horrific it was to wear tights for a whole hour I laid on the guilt.

"Jesus died for you and you can't wear tights to church once this year??"
No response, point made. Except there were no tights that fit them, or else they threw them away! We had to settle for white socks and dress shoes. Which was fine but I saw Paige eyeing the flip flops in the basket when she was getting ready.

After church we returned home for pictures and our Easter egg hunt. Since the weather cooperated the Bunny left our eggs outside. Even though it was cool out it was a beautiful morning.

Mimi, Grommy, Gretchen, and Whitney came over for brunch and to celebrate Bill and Gretchen's birthdays. Poor Gretch we had to drag her off the couch to sing as she has a horrible migraine today. I don't think she ate anything and I know she didn't have any of her cake.

The kids had a great day, more to follow in next posts. Sorry we missed you BJ, hope you are feeling better BJ. Your fan club really missed you.

Celebrating Good Friday

My activities came together with minimal effort for our Good Friday. I had picked up this book at the library for the girls, same publisher as all of the Legend books (Legend of the Easter Egg etc.) and they are all so good I thought they would enjoy this. My friend from co-op, Cris, sent me a cooking activity for making resurrection rolls. And to tie everything together we went Friday night to church to see a reenactment of The Upper Room. It was perfect, especially for the little ones, to hear the story in the morning and then have it acted out for them that night. Perfect! One happy schooling mom here and we all enjoyed spending the day together!

Everyone loved the rolls and not just eating them. Making them and learning the significance of the symbols was just as much fun.





Using crescent rolls, divide into triangles which represents the cloth that wrapped Jesus. Jesus is the marshmallow.

Coat the marshmallow in melted butter which represents the embalming oil.

Cover the marshmallow in cinnamon sugar which represent the anointing spices.

Wrap the "cloth" or roll around the marshmallow tightly and place in the oven "tomb" for about 10 minutes.

Take out of oven and open the roll. Jesus has left the tomb, he has risen. Erin thought this was the neatest thing! She made one for Bill and could not wait to show him what happened to his Jesus. I'm glad she got so much out of this because she was exhausted by the time we got to church and not too interested in watching the play.




We had to throw in a little Easter spring time treat! We used cornflakes and made bird nests much like you make Rice Krispie Treats with butter and marshmallow. Lindy and Paige had fun putting the eggs in and decorating the nests.
